There's been a lot of flap recently about Valerie Plame, and with good reason. I'm not going to rehash it, but an additional point was raised in this article, pointing out that the business that Ms. Wilson (her married name) was working at has since been identified by the government as a front. This makes the leak even more damaging and widespread than originally thought.

In financial news, it looks like banks will have an easier time clearing checks (day pass required to view). Proper scanning technology will allow for checks to not need physical transportation. I do wonder how quickly somebody will be able to mock up something for forgeries. On the plus side, it means that Congress is actually trying to regulate interstate commerce.

I stopped writing fake news for a reason: the real stuff is so much weirder.

so much for all the "this check has a blue background" and other anti-fraud measures banks are applying to paper checks.

I suspect they will still be using those. The question will be if crackers with good tech skills will be able to forge a phone ID/IP address to clear bad checks.

IP address spoofing has been trivial for some time. And some phone switches can be rigged to transmit arbitrary caller ID information. That's how all the phone spammers come up "out of area" on your Caller ID.
