they seem to have lost about a million viewers (a quarter of their audience) between the first season and now. it has less than half the numbers of most of their other TNT shows (http://tntnewsroom.com/tnt-has-more-original-hit-series-in-2012-than-any-other-basic-cable-network/). Southland has slightly lower numbers, but several Emmys since moving to TNT.
*nod* This -- it was very much on the bubble at the end of S4, and Rogers has talked about making sure he writes the season finales as possible series enders.
Yeah... If a show has lots of viewers, and there exists any industry that would be willing to advertise on the show, there's money to be made by the network.
