Filk: Silvery Mold

A couple of years back I wrote Silver and Gold, fun little song. Tigerlily told me she wanted to write a filk of it but she never got around to it. So I wrote one. The original songsheet is buried, alas, but loosely reconstructed it goes like this. Oh, for those of you who have heard the original, think down by a third, slightly faster tempo and vaguely more nasal voice.


Silvery Mold

Cooking hard eight days a week
Cooking until my knees get weak
Cooking inside for the winter cold
I'm cooking food with silvery mold

My lady wants a savory dish
For her I'll cook whatever she'll wish
I'd love to feed her tuna roll
But the can's all slick with silvery mold

My recipes are pretty sweet
My Chicken Surprise! is a favorite treat
Wish I knew why the chicken that I've been sold
Is always hiding silvery mold

It's time for me to have a drink
Every glass of root beer helps me think
But my soda pop's all flat and old
With a sticky slick film of silvery mold

Be careful walking the city lanes
You might even rather abstain, cuz
After a walk I had my shoes re-soled
They were pitted and holed by silvery mold

My kitchen fridge is a scary thing
The stuff inside would scare Sauron of the Ring
The rotten steak shouldn't be paroled
But what scares me most is the silvery mold

My neighbor has some well-kept land
It's fertile unlike my worthless sand
I've sharpened my knives, it's time to be bold
I'll fight him for the land with no silvery mold

Mankind will chew and drink and burp
and eat and swallow and sloppily slurp
Our just reward should be silver and gold
