Sonnet: Winter Subway
Jan. 16th, 2012 01:22 amMy ears are frozen by the winter chill
I cannot hear the train stop next to me
Though bumpy travel enervates my quill
It guides me to a steaming pot of tea
Staccato on the tracks I cannot fix
I curse the night with very little heat
The people who surround me do not mix
All furtively, no eyes or souls can meet
As I prepare to walk on winter roads
Near lawns still green in January's cold
I think about our fragmentary modes
With nothing we can have or even hold
My solitary ride upon the rail
Is but a single leg upon my trail
I cannot hear the train stop next to me
Though bumpy travel enervates my quill
It guides me to a steaming pot of tea
Staccato on the tracks I cannot fix
I curse the night with very little heat
The people who surround me do not mix
All furtively, no eyes or souls can meet
As I prepare to walk on winter roads
Near lawns still green in January's cold
I think about our fragmentary modes
With nothing we can have or even hold
My solitary ride upon the rail
Is but a single leg upon my trail
