The White House had decent intel. It just chose to ignore it. Salon, requires watching an ad. It's worth it.

You know, I've never seen so many people who work (or worked) for the government be so distressed about how its moving under the Executive branch, even back during Iran-Contra in the mid-80s.

Ignore? It went far out of its way, one can argue that it broke laws and turned the Constituion and Bill of Rights into pretzels, in its quest to discredit and smear and destroy and critical or even questioning voices...
