Recently the TiVo recorded Great Performances look at Bill Irwin. I am a big fan of good physical comedy, and this man looks to be one of the very few current active masters of the genre. If you happen to see tickets floating around for a nearby performance including him - he usually performs on-stage - then I suggest you get them and go watch.

My favorite physical comedians include The Marx Brothers (all deceased), Michael J Fox (who now has Parkinsons), early Chevy Chase (had to stop due to back injury), and Victor Borge (alas, deceased). Do any of you out there have any other performers you'd put in this category?

(Edited to add:) And can anybody think of a (or several) good female physical comic(s)? I'm drawing a blank.

They were great on the Carol Burnett show!
(I haven't thought of that for years. Thank you.)

You're right. It's been far too long since I watched the Carroll Burnett Show. They did very good work.

His son is on The Class. It is a very funny show and he definately got his father's comedic timing.

I care what no one says, I will always have a place in my heart for Robin Williams.

I'm very fond of Robin Williams as a comedian, but I personally can't quite call him a physical comedian. He's great with body language.

For that matter - Carol Burnett! One good female physical comedienne. Lily Tomlin is a second.

Yes! Mr. Noodle!! He's one of the best physical comedians I've seen on TV. Does he play anywhere else? It would be great for him to have a wider audience. (Someone once said that Mr. Noodle reminded himmer of my son. Maybe that's why I like him so much.)

Steve Martin has had his moments. He was great in the tuxedo scene of "Father of the Bride" and as Lily Tomlin's "other half" in "All of Me".

There are two Mr. Noodles. One is Bill Irwin (the larger one). The other guy is dead of HIV.

Mr. Noodle would be Bill Irwin (taller) and the late Michael Jeter (shorter). Both excellent, though I always preferred Irwin's physical comedy per se.

Ha! I told Wolf last night that I thought Bill Irwin played Mr. Noodle, based on body language, and he disbelieved! I win!

This'll surprise you: Kathleen Turner. Romancing the Stone and Jewel of the Nile, not to mention War of the Roses. And Michael Douglas. Lucille Ball. Christopher Lloyd. Dan Aykroyd. Bill Murray.

Hell, Paul Hogan, for that matter. All alive!!
