Space Shuttle Discovery has just launched into a clear blue sky in Florida. It is now travelling in excess of 10,000 miles per hour at a mere seven minutes after takeoff.

What a sight! Wow...

Awesome! Are you near the actual launch site?

Nah, I watched it live on CNN. Boston has been grey, cloudy and rainy today.
One of my bosses lives only 5 miles away from the site, though.

I once watched a launch from a rooftop in Orlando. It was evening, sunset -- the sky was reddish orange near the horizon, grading through yellow and greenish to blue overhead. The shuttle's vapor trail was a shimmery field, wider at the bottom than the top, with a reverse rainbow: red at the tip, fading through orange to yellow nearer the ground. That was one of the more beautiful and weird images I've seen.
