Bill Moyers Journal will be ending in a few weeks.

For those of you scratching your head, Bill Moyers used to be the host of the PBS show Now. When President Dubya appointed a partisan hack to head the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, he talked about bringing "balance" to the coverage offered by various hosts. Said hack took specific aim at Now, and Bill Moyers left the show. That show is now back with David Brancacchio, original host of the PBS radio show Marketplace, who does a good job.

Bill Moyers, however, came back with the Journal. It is an old-style interview show, topic driven, no shouting, where guests get in some cases as much as 45 minutes of uninterrupted conversation with Mr. Moyers, who does not stick with only softball questions. It is, as such, one of the most informative shows on the air right now in terms of in-depth coverage of an issue. He does, in my opinion, a better job than 60 Minutes, though 60 Minutes is a decent show.

Mr. Moyers, I hope somebody else will be able to follow your trail of informative, soft-spoken, issue-driven interviews. I will miss your show greatly. I hope you have a good rest and that you might feel able to come back to the airwaves on a regular basis someday.
