First, Comedy Central has a new show that seems to be from the UK in that the first season is all of 6 episodes long. The show is Krod Mandoon and the Flaming Sword of Fire, and it does a pretty good turn of comic high fantasy on the small screen. Take the show Hercules from the early 90s, add a healthy dose of MST3K, a soupçon of The Man Show for the sexual jokes and a dash of Get Smart, and this is what you get. The title character speaks with an American accent, as does his ineffectual sorcerer, but the rest of the cast has a variety of modern UK accents, centering on Great Britain. It does not do much in the way of potty humor, which is a step up from a number of Comedy Central shows. Give it a looksee, but not around the kids. The plot is straightforward enough, but they toss in enough amusing twists to make you wonder if the writers have a copy of The Tough Guide To Fantasyland and maybe the When I Am An Evil Overlord scripts nearby.
Second is more technological. I have been pestering TiVo for years to offer Netflix On Demand. Recently, likely owing to other people asking for the same thing, they gave it to us. We now have whole series of anime, commercial free, await review - as well as lots of Doctor Who and Muppet movies. The interface is slightly different but still beats going to the video store or paying Big Cable. I am a happy woolf. So if your TiVo is Series 3 or HD and has wireless networking capability, give it a whirl if you haven't already.
Oh, and one food note: pasta with bite-size pieces of chicken cutlets, crimini mushroom slices, garlic and a balsamic reduction with pepper, formerly-dried shallot and a hint of coriander is OM NOM NOM tasty. I may need to get more baseline balsamic from TJs, though.
