Song: Lonesome December
Dec. 25th, 2006 05:00 pmI've been trying to write this for weeks now. I may tweak it later, but I think it might be done.
The cat looks out from her shelter with eyes
that are bright as the sun but of much smaller size
She curls close for warmth in the dark of the alley
and pally, she wishes for home
A mother walks down the dim streets of Brooklyn
She hurries and shivers and thinks about cookin'
Her children are hungry with much trepidation
Small nation, they wish she was home
Chorus:
It's a cold cold night in the lonesome December
The moon so bright in the sky up above
No clouds in sight but I can't see Orion
from the streets of the city
The car drives slow on the snow covered tarmac
the driver dreams of massage for his sore back
Just one more stop to get beef knishes
He wishes and thinks about home
The ranger sits at his post at Monadnock
He listens and waits and stares at his old clock
and thinks of her smile and her warm loving kisses
His missus, well, she's still at home
Chorus:
It's a cold cold night in the lonesome December
The wind and frost leaves you lost in the crowd
No matter the cost it's time to go home now
from the streets cold and pretty
Bridge:
My journey is long but I cannot stop yet
I still have from moonrise until the moonset
I'm twelve steps from home but still miles away
I hope that you'll still let me stay
It's late and dark in the woods near Montpelier
the snow so cold, you need hands of a healer
or a warm fur coat to keep out the breezes
and Jesus, I'm wishing for home
A million candles are lit for the evening
Their message is clear, I hope you're receiving
Hope comes nigh, our hearts were once riven
All's forgiven, I wish you'd come home
Please come home?
Chorus:
It's a cold cold night in the lonesome December
The stars are bright with the moon in the sky
I'll wait for you, you'll know where to find me
in the streets of our city
