OK, I've had enough of the myth. Mr Bush said that his conservativism was compassionate toward poor and middle class interests.

Let's see how he stacks up:

He reinstated the gag rule on abortion clinics which receive federal funding. This makes it harder for women who can't afford private doctors to get full medical advice on a pregnancy. Conservative? Yup. Compassionate? Nope.

He's cut access to individuals looking for Welfare. This makes it harder for single mothers and single fathers to take care of their young children and generally keep a stable household - even though he's repeatedly said he wants stable households for children. Conservative? Yup. Compassionate? Nope.

He's cut taxes for the richest while maintaining the about the same tax levels on the poorest. Hmm, tax the poor to give to the rich. Conservative? Yup. Compassionate? Nope.

He's gutted environmental protections for land and air and water. Poor people have a much harder time buying bottled water and air cleaners. Conservative? Yup. Compassionate? Nope.

If you'd like to play along, take something he's done that's definitely politically conservative that's unfair to poor and middle class people. I'd love to get a good laundry list going.
