The joys of shifting
Apr. 30th, 2002 10:22 pmWell, last week
tigerbright mentioned that I might be changing shifts but it was dicey due to the requirement to work Saturdays, something I steadfastly refuse to do as a regular thing. I ended up not trying for the shift change to the locale closer to home because of the Saturday requirement. No way! Not for me! I'd keep the commute and the shift that doesn't let me see Tigerlily much before I'd take the one that requires working Saturdays. And while it wasn't a happy prospect for her she understood why I made that decision and respects it (even if she does say in her head, "But I miss him, dammit! Why don't they have something without a Saturday?" That's probably a verbatim quote, by the way)
Well, today they got in a set of new shifts at the closer locale. Among the available shifts were eight shifts that were Sunday through Thursday (my current days) with earlier start times (which would mean I'd get to see Tigerbright for at least a couple more hours a day). The earlier one would mean I'd even get to have a social life locally again. So I put in for the shift that ends earlier - even if it isn't quite with my sleep rhythms I have missed my Tigerlily and I'd get to cook for her up to seven days a week instead of maybe two.
Since a lot of other people who wanted to move to the other locale have already taken shifts from the last batch of available ones I'm very likely to move to day shift, 9am to 5:30pm. I don't like mornings but I am *so* looking forward to getting that shift, increased sales goals and all. If I don't get that one I'll get 12:30-9:00pm, which means no dinners but I still get to see more of people. Either shift will start in August.
I'll know by next week. And I'm pretty sure the answer will be Hell Yes.
