1) The Strawberry's next to Trader Joe's on Storrow Memorial (thanks Mycroft) Drive is closing in two weeks. They are selling everything. Used stuff, DVD sets, everything's had its price cut. I looked lustfully at season one of Carnivale, but even with the price cut it's $80.

2) The new Penzey's store is a bit further down on Mass Ave in Arlington than I would have expected. I gave myself a $20 limit, ended up spending closer to $10. I enjoyed the smelling jars as they give me an excellent idea of what I can put their spices in. I noticed that the spices mixes made me rub my nose a bit - fairly strong. That or my nose really is getting closer to bloodhound.

3) Rosebud in Malden remains a very good place for produce. 89 cent fresh mangos. Mmmmm... mango lhassi...

(edited to add) Mango lhassi note: more sugar, less honey.

I envy you having a Penzey's close by-- the nearest for me is in Grand Rapids, nearly 90 minutes away. Their cocoa is heavenly (the regular, not the mint) and I really enjoy their various curry blends.

Just out of curiosity: does Mahoney's Farm in Winchester still exist?

Not sure if that one does, but there's one on Western Ave in Allston (it used to be on Mem Drive in Cambridge).

You mean the one on the left as you head north on Route 3 (I think it is)? The sign was there last weekend when I drove to visit friends in Winchester, though we didn't pass the property itself, to get a sense of whether it was still a going concern. The turn we had to make to get to the friends' house was just before Mahoney's, so I saw the sign and little else.

Yes, Mahoney's in Winchester is still there. The "Rocky Ledge Farm" sign came down years ago, though. And there is a cat there... seems like lots of nurseries and farms have cats, which get annoyed at people who don't pet them.... I think there are still Mahoney's in other places. The one in Winchester is the original.

Oh my goodness, mango lhassi!! Mango heaven! Has to be one of my favorite drinks. I'll bet you make a mean one, too. ;)

This was a first attempt, actually, and I had to use my food processor instead of my blender because I didn't know where the blender cup was. It's more like a mango yoghurt smoothie than a proper mango lhassie, but it's not bad. It'll prep better next time with the blender, the mango has a bit of pulpy texture in this one.

Not exactly, but...
This weekend is a big BBQ.
Next weekend is likely when Jadasc will move the bulk of his stuff out. He hasn't told us so, but it's a good bet and I'd like to help get Shtuff into the moving truck.
Weekend after that is July 4th, with two cons.
Weekend after that is my father's birthday kaddish at my parents shul on Saturday and a BBQ out their-a-ways on Sunday. Dad is in his late 70s and has mellowed amazingly in the past five years, so it's just about OK to be around him for periods longer than two hours without a meal.
I'm not so sure about weekend after that, but there's a chance I might be in NY. Or I might be staying at the ready for Tigerlily, who may want to just rest a lot.
Weekend after that is MassFILC. If we don't make that, we likely rest.
Weekend after that we're within three weeks of the Arrival Of The Sprogling, and thus I am not making plans. And, of course, after the Arrival I am not making any social plans for a good month.

I hope to say "howdy" in person

Hi - your social calendar for the summer sounds about as busy as mine does!

Matthew and I will be visiting with Spencer, Persis and Talis in late July into perhaps early August. We're very much playing things by ear. In between is Baitcon.

What is your actual due date for sprog? I'm hoping that I'll have a chance to see you both while I'm in your general vicinity, if not for long, at least for perhaps a meal and a conversation, and of course, hugs. Let me know what your availablity during that time might be.

Penzey's spices do seem to be stronger than most. I love them, and arrange to get them anytime I visit the midwest, or when my midwest sweetie comes to visit me.
