I think the most bizarre thing about the whole issue with Israel is its support by American Christian fundamentalists, who believe all Jews are going to hell because they reject Jesus, yet support Israel apparently because: 1) They hate the Arabs even more than the Jews, and; 2) it fits in with their current favorite interpretation of St. John's Revelation. I remember reading an article in National Geographic about Jerusalem, and how, as the year 2000 was approaching, they had a special task force to deal with apocalyptic whackos from all three of the major religions that call Israel home. I think it is a good article. I suppose I shouldn't have much of an opinion either way about it, as I am not Muslim, Jewish, or Christian, and never want to visit the Middle East. But outside of religious excuses, the behavior of all the parties involved seems completely insane to me. Well, I take that back. I do have an opinion outside of the religious one. From a purely self-indulgent standpoint, I wish the US would stop providing military and other support to Israel, because it only will cause more violence to be directed towards us. Perhaps that is selfish, but I am a selfish person when it comes to not wanting to be blown up...
