Not that the election is sewn up, but currently Nate Silver lists the most likely electoral map with Barack Obama once again breaking the 300 electoral college vote level. He also suggests the Senate will have at least 52 people who are, or caucus with, Democrats.

It's a pity that it looks like the House will remain in GOP hands.

fwiw, in a discussion about the election months before the Republican convention, I called the results like this: A Romney nomination for Republican candidate, and a narrow win for Obama. Reasons why? Twofold, both really boiling down to that "Romney is not Republican enough for the Republicans" - 1) He is Mormon and Americans look on that as faintly scandalous; 2) He is a Republican and was a governor, sure, but from ULTRA LIBERAL MASSACHUSETTS. So barely a Republican at ALL.

I am not saying, ftr, that I believe any of this, but a few years of living in DC gave me an interesting insider view on how elections get decided. It has depressingly little to do with anything relevant. Living in DC can make one terribly cynical.

It's not over until it's certified. "Sewn up", indeed.

On the other hand, it IS looking good for our Presidential hero, and not bad for the Senate.

I wish there was a good chance for the House to be competitive, but an obstructionist GOP that is noticed for its obstructionism still manages to get people who are tired of obstructionism to vote for them.

Yeah, Romney getting the nod was likely. Too many others lacked the staying power (ie cash) and were more obviously unfit to lead. Of course, Twit Romney isn't really much of a leader himself, but he managed to hide this for long enough.

Everyone hates obstruction, but when the battle gets fierce, people would rather nothing happens than things happen in the direction they don't like.

There's reason to be hopeful. The GOP won in 2010 by swinging far right and getting crazy and angry. I think they'll try it again, but this time, the economy will be recovering. *If* they pile on the crazy, I think they'll get crushed.

That might *finally* start bringing 'em back to sanity.
