Last night I logged on to the game after rollover, around 11ish or so. I'd been logging on then consistently for a while but had been off for several days, maybe even a week. After a little adventuring I was surprised to see a message in my inbox from a player: "Haven't seen you for a while, want to bid on your auction!"
Back story here. Some months back I went and got me a Golden Mr. A. I did this after losing large sums with the Money Making Game. Initially my thought was, I could sell the Smiles for meat and recoup a bit. I tried selling the smiles for five thousand meat each, the going price, and regularly didn't sell them all. So, just for fun, I decided to auction them off, starting the bidding at one meat. Most times I made at least as much as I would selling. I spawned imitators, which is flattering :-) Thing is, recently people have been bidding huge amounts for my smiles. The million meat mark for 5 smiles was passed only within the past couple of months. I don't consistently get that much, but the auctions are fun, and its great watching people pick their jaws up off the floor :-)
So, last night I went into the channel. Somebody else was auctioning their smiles, so I waited for their auction to be done. When it finished, I launched into mine. I had two bidders, both determined to get my smiles at any cost they could, and I do mean any cost. Some other people who sometimes sell or give away smiles decided to donate their smiles to the winner because this auction was so charged.
The winning bid was 12 million meat.
For people who don't play in the game, buying a particular in-game item called a Mr. A costs $10 and is worth between 4.3 to 4.5 million meat.
No, I don't expect to hit that again anytime soon, if ever, but it was fun!. I gave food and drink to the people who donated their smiles to the auction. Now I know the price went that high because I'd been a bit absent, but in a way I hope I don't have to see the price go that high again :-)
