Political information
Oct. 25th, 2012 02:16 pmTwo recommendations for today, both from television.
My PBS station ran a Frontline special: The Choice 2012. It has an in-depth look at the life and times of both major candidates for the office of President of the United States. They do not cover current policy as much as they cover historical record of each person, including their policies and practices at the time. There are many in-depth interviews with people close to each candidate, and not all of the interviews paint politically-flattering pictures. That said, if you want to understand the political motivations behind the men, this is the best set of profiles I have seen for this race: cogent, no spin, without fear or favor. It's nearly two hours, and it's good watching.
The second item is issue advocacy regarding veterans' benefits. Last night's The Daily Show with Jon Stewart gave it's usual bit of comedic analysis on the issue during the first segment. I rather liked the bit where he mentioned that the Senate GOP objected to spending money on helping veterans reintegrate into civilian society because the selfsame Senate GOP contingent had spent too much money turning these people into veterans. Not including commercials, figure on 25 minutes or so for this.
If you can only pick one, I suggest the longer one.
