Show picoreview: Face Off
Oct. 14th, 2012 06:36 pmI am not one who likes most competition shows. I do not like snarky judges being snarky, I do not like the winner-take-all philosophy, and I do not like the willingness to step on other competitors to get ahead.
Face Off (SyFy) has none of these problems. The judges give criticism, but even when it is harsh they work at making it constructive. The competitors are willing to help each other out in the prep room and don't try to rattle each other. The usual problems of competition reality TV shows, in other words, are removed.
The theme of the show, that of professional-grade make-up and costuming, is a good one. My inner child-sized Star Trek TOS fan enjoys this quite a bit.
In short: if you don't like competition shows due to snark and meanness, you should give this one a look.
