Song: Solar Sailor
Oct. 24th, 2010 01:56 pmI've been writing this only since yesterday when the first line of the chorus said, write me down. I finished it while I had a little time this morning. There's a lot of three-part harmony for alternate lines and minibridges, so nothing will be done in voice post yet. Here are the lyrics:
The ocean's light spray on a warm spring day
Rime with a reason, breezing in season
Times like these are what make me pray
Genuflect and reflect on why I protect
Tune out for an hour and climb the tall tower
Not down in the dirt all achy and hurt
Back to my station protecting my nation
These memories sustain me
I want you to notice how I feel about you but my lips are sealed and tied
I hope your soul's listening to what mine is saying, deep down inside
Chorus
I see you standing near but I can't reach out to touch
I want to tell you something but anything's too much
And so I stand here quietly with silence as my crutch
My warm smile hides my tears
Our spaceship is broken, groaning, ill-spoken
Deep-fried and battered, command has been tattered
Times like this make me long for Hoboken
Even New Jersey is better than this
Tune out for an hour and try to save power
Not sure we'll be saved from a bottomless grave
A glimmer, a shimmer, the doctor looks grimmer
Her medicine sustains me
I want you to notice that I am still breathing but I'm gasping too loud too ask
I hope you can see you're important to me, right through my mask
Chorus
I see you standing near but I can't reach out to touch
I want to tell you something but anything's too much
And so I stand here quietly with silence as my crutch
My warm smile hides my tears
Bridge
What will we do in the height of emotion deep in the bowl of space
Will we argue and bicker and die that much quicker, vanish without a trace
Will we come together in harsh solar weather and work with a pressured grace
Do we have a chance in a final space trance to rebuild what we can't replace
Rescue is fleeting and starts with a greeting
"Hello the mission, you're saved from perdition."
Exhaustion surrounding and yet somehow grounding
Words never heard in the winds of ambition
I semi-regret it but now you have heard it
Turn from your eyes as I lose all disguise
A quiver, a quaver, your words are much braver
But will your words sustain me?
And now you have noticed how I feel about you, the secret I could not hide
I hope your heart's matching the way that mine's feeling, deep down inside
Chorus
I see you standing near but I can't reach out to touch
I want to tell you something but anything's too much
And so I stand here quietly with silence as my crutch
My warm smile hides my tears
I see you coming near and I quiver at your touch
You start to whisper something but everything's too much
And so we stand together without a single crutch
And nothing can hide my tears
When you're standing oh-so-near
Have you come to ease my fears?
The ocean's light spray on a warm spring day
Rime with a reason, breezing in season
Times like these are what make me pray
Genuflect and reflect on why I protect
Tune out for an hour and climb the tall tower
