Woo hoo!

I am so chuffed! This has been a stellar night and I couldn't be more pleased with the results. It's exceeded my expectations. It's restored my faith in my fellow citizens. I have seldom been more proud to declare that I am a proud citizen of Massachusetts, and I am always proud to mention I live in Massachusetts.

I am, of course, talking about the drive to decriminalize marijuana in Massachusetts. What, you were thinking I meant something else?

Well, OK, I admit it. I'm also chuffed about the other vote. Yes! I knew they could do it! We voted to keep our income tax! And if you ever saw the language of the repeal... well, a Libertarian could love the rhetoric, but I felt it was ham-handed. Kosher rules my vote, so no ham. Even if the proposal said we'd be cutting pork.

My heartfelt congratulations go out to SenatorPresident-Elect Barack Obama, and my heartfelt thanks to all of the millions of people who spent time, effort and money to help him get into office. I wish I could have joined you in your efforts as opposed to just writing a few blog posts and giving him my vote. You are my heroes.

I have one more person I want to congratulate but I am extremely worried talking about it would jinx that race. He and I talked a little while during Election '04, and we both felt that Kerry would win given the polls... and then the thing went very sour. I'll tell the story later.

To everybody in California, regarding Question 8, my heart goes out to you, and my hopes, and all I can say is as of this writing I hope all the precincts they've tallied are the ruby-red ones in Orange County. It will be, for me, an annoyance and a fly in the ointment; for some friends of mine, it will be a heartbreaker. My friends have had their hearts broken enough. I want... God, please, this means a lot to me. Yes, I'm praying in public, but that's how worried I am for my friends.

We all have many steps to take after today, but we have taken a monumental step today for a new President. The rest of the steps should be a little easier. I hope the path stays clear, and I am glad my friends are walking with me.

Excuse me, I have a speech to listen to.
