Aug. 6th, 2007 09:24 pmI am not a slash-fic or gen-fic writer.
I am not a slash-fic or gen-fic artist.
I am not generally fond of those genres of derivative work. Some of them squick me.
Nevertheless, I think that they have artistic merit.
The recent journal suspensions on LJ for slash-fic and slash-art disturb me greatly. In effect, the admins of Six Apart declared that those creative works had negative artistic value, enough to negate any artistic value of any and all other works they had done.
This is an incredibly worrysome concept.
I am not one of these writers or artists, but I find their freedom to speak important to me. Taking away their freedom to create has a chilling effect on what I can create, as well as what my friends and family can create.
I have started an interest: freedom of LJ fandom. Since the admins of Si x (Six Apart) seem to pay attention to numbers, I suggest adding it and freedom of fandom to your interests list if you want to send them a message. No, it's not a big thing; but a lot of people doing a small thing can still make a noticeable difference.
If you want to spread the interest, then feel free to write your take on freedom of fandom on LJ on your journal.
