Super Milk Chan Cartoon Network is on at 4 in the morning or thereabouts. Frankly, that's a very good time for it to be on. I made it through the credits and the first two minutes of the first cartoon before deleting it off the TiVo in disgust. The animation style fits well with the lead character, who in the two minues I watched was w mean brat with no redeeming qualities whatsoever. Maybe she gets better after the two minutes; I don't know. But then again, I don't care.
Hi Hi Puffy Ami Yumi Show Cartoon Network is on Friday evenings. It's the animated adventures of Japanese pop stars Ami and Yumi. I know this show will probably be liked by some, even many, and enjoyed by teens and kids, but it wasn't for me. I like the intro, I like it when the two stars themselves are onscreen and say a few words; but I think what gets me is that they have voice actors playing the parts of Ami and Yumi right after you get to hear their real voices. In some ways I'm a purist. It doesn't bother me anywhere near as much on Jackie Chan Adventures but that's partly because he only shows up at the end of each episode instead of the beginning. It doesn't break the vocal illusion. Also, his voice actor sounds more like him than theirs do like them.
Comic Party Anime Network is on-demand where I live. We're still waiting for the 24 hours channel. There are times I want to smack the protagonist, a very nice if sometimes very clueless fellow named Kazuki, across the back of the head; and occasionally my desire for this is granted. He is an artist with great skill. His friend Taishi wants him to draw fan-comics, comics made by fans as opposed to made by large companies. Watch him struggle. Watch him learn. Watch him stumble. But by all means, watch. This series has no major special effects aside from the opening credits.
Voice Actor Note: the character who plays Mitsuki, the closest person Kazuki has to a girlfriend, is done by the same lady who voices Misty for Pokemon.
The Daily Show Comedy Central is on a well-earned vacation this week. Over the past couple of weeks the show has been shedding some of the minimalist playfulness it once had toward the Bush administration. They're still being snarky in its general direction, but now they're much snarkier. About bloody time. To no doubt quote the host, Jon Stewart, and several other regulars on the show, 'The Bush administration had totally fucked us all and now they need to pay.'
Excellent show, but the humor can overload some just from the rapidity.
