Oct. 28th, 2004 11:35 amA few things of interest for all you fellow-devotees of the television:
Drawn Together is a new series on Comedy Central, a spoof of MTV's Real World done with cartoon characters. If South Park is your game you'll probably like this; if not, I truly suggest you stay away. I'll watch for a few more episodes to make sure one way or the other; but I can tell you I did not like what they did with the Betty Boop rip-off, and here I am not talking about using one of the voice-actors from the Powerpuff Girls to do the voice because that was good if a bit creepy. Almost every character there is in some way opposite to the character they are based on, which is fine. I could deal with it if it were just partial opposite. Total polar opposite, however, is not, and that's what they did to her. I could live without what they did to her and I can live without the pig. Aside from them it's a fun little show, especially the Pikachu rip-off.
Legend of Black Heaven is showing Monday nights on International Channel (IC). It's the tale of an over-the-hill rocker who discovers that his music is not just wanted but is needed - in outer space. His key there is a beautiful woman who keeps a low profile on Earth. She has three devoted but inept assistants. Watch the hijinks as he tries to enjoy his music once again and tries to avoid getting in trouble in his regular life - job, wife and young son.
Voice-actor note: the main protagonist is voiced by the same fellow who did Jet, the cybered-up ex-cop, on Cowboy Bebop
The Al Franken Show, normally heard on Air America AM radio, can be found on Sundance Channel weeknights. You don't get the full on-air show. You get some of the guests, occasional segments like Mark Luther, a regular dose of the Oy Yoy Yoy show, and graphics to go along with what you hear on radio. You miss out on most phone calls in, which is a pity sometimes; but you also miss the nearly-hours-worth of commercials that air during the three-hour radio show, which is very good.
Oh, and Katherine Lanpher is cute.
And on to politics:
So much for dignity in the White House. (A .mov file, not particularly big but still...) I've never considered such a gesture dignified, anyways. Especially not when I do it, and I'm not the President.
