On a lighter note, Happy Thanksgiving everybody :-)

I want to mention why I like Thanksgiving so much.

Thanksgiving in the USA is an American holiday.

Thanksgiving is not a religious holiday nor is it based on one. This is a holiday for Christian, Jew, Muslim, Buddhist, atheist, agnostic, Shinto, Pagan, and Subgenii alike. Nobody gets left out on Thanksgiving, not that way. Anybody who tells me Christmas isn't really Christian, well, I'll ask them why its primarily celebrated in churches.

Thanksgiving is not a stadium holiday. The most important part of observing Thanksgiving is spending time with family and friends you care about, not going out into a big crowd. Well, except the Macy's parade. But I do enjoy a good parade and the Macy's one is one of the best.

Thanksgiving is not a commercialized holiday. No matter the attempts to sell cards or special decorations or anything else, the closest the holiday gets to commercialism is selling turkey. Yes, also the Macy's parade but that's pretty regional.

Thanksgiving is a time for me to spend time with people I care about and to enjoy good food and, when I think about it, to remember things that either encourage me to grow or make me feel good or both. For me, that's the best that any holiday can ever do and something frequently lost in the noise of Christmas lights and commercials and overloud holiday music.

Give me the food. Give me the friends. Give me the memories. And hey, give me the Fourth of July fireworks too - I love those.

And give me Thanksgiving. It always makes me smile.
