In the blazing heat
I pray for the thunderstorms
life-affirming rain

My silent morning
punctuated by kitties
mute that goddamn phone!

Memory slivers
of cold soft serve ice cream cones
on blazing tarmac

How can you sleep in?
The sweltering day demands
air conditioning
