Firstus, having a TiVo is nifty. Secundus, so is having Video On Demand.
On to the shows:
Carnivale (HBO) is my current new fave. It's a live-action show based in 1930s USA, one where there is still magic and mystery in the world. The sets are lavish, with loads of original equipment and knicknacks from that era. The plot is very good. The magic isn't done with major special effects and that makes it even better. The enigmas are enigmatic and not anywhere near easy to guess. The Rubenesque ladies are the ones who tend to bare it all and they look *so* good doing so. And I want to bash in both protagonists heads.
Dead Like Me (Showtime) is a very strong, very morbid comedy. The first season has completed with some well-rounded characters, an interesting premise regarding Death and some very wry humor. If death squicks you, don't watch this without company. It doesn't have the grand scope of Carnivale, but that's OK.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Fox) has been redone and relaunched. If you watched the original animated TV show and expect the same kind of goofy goings-on, fuggedaboudit. If you happen to have read the original black and white *comics*, though, you will eat this stuff up. So far it has followed the same basic story arc as the original comics, with some updating for tech and a nod to keeping a redhead in the story. No Cerebus crossover to date though.
Eye Drops (TechTV) is a fun little show with lots of strange animation shorts. Some of it is extremely polished, some of it rough, and some of it is plain old disturbing. If you like animation then this is a show for you.
Justice League (Cartoon Network) is a good animated version of the comic book super team. It's not a complete map of the characters - Aquaman isn't on the team, Hawkgirl is - but it's good superhero cartoons. Animation is simple in certain ways, along the lines of the 1990s original-style Batman cartoons, but very good. I'm still annoyed by Hawkgirl's mace doing more damage than Superman's punch though.
No, I have no interest in most dramas on most networks.
