Song - still no working title

I went there for learning, I went there to live
I travelled there yearning for all life could give
I stayed on returning all kindnesses shown
But most of my time was alone

I travelled there hoping my life would be great
I stayed on while groping for grander estate
I went there while moping and kept feeling wry
So now all I say is goodbye

Chorus:
Goodbye to the valley that once was my home
Goodbye to the mountains that ofttimes I'd roam
Goodbye to the friendships you kept out of reach
I've learned all the lessons you teach

The grasses were green, the people seemed nice
The teachings I'd glean would be learned in a trice
The strangers were mean but I learned how to cope
And still did my heart cling to hope

The teachings were hazy like hot summer days
The strangers were crazy in light of the blaze
The grasses hid daisies as if they were shy
So now all I say is goodbye

Chorus

My time there is ended, my life sprung anew
The people befriended I'm glad that I knew
My heart is all mended or at least, healing well
I'm finally free from your spell

The people upstanding have left you long since
My heart hit the landing when you made me wince
My time is demanding so I don't know why
It's so hard to just say goodbye

Chorus

Lovely. I've realized that I really prefer your more melancholy songs - they seem to touch me more than the others. This one's definitely a keeper.

I seem to be better at writing melancholy or serious songs than silly stuff. Must be my core.
